Giel Vermeulen - "Teaching Children Effectively" Hayley Walker - "Keeping Our Children Safe" Past. Michael Lear - "Developing or Selecting Sound Biblical Curriculum" Speakers: Rev. Gideon Mpeni - "Multi-Cultural Children's and Youth Ministry" Rev. Gideon Mpeni, was the Mission co-ordinator at Hope Missions International in Malawi from 2004 to 2008. Afterwards he served as a high school teacher at the Jahari Christian Academy. He is currently busy with furthers studies (B.Ed. and B.Th. Hons.) while he is a pastor at Crystal Park Baptist Church. Gideon is a part-time lecturer at Mukhanyo’s Johannesburg campus. Past. Michael Lear - "Developing or Selecting Sound Biblical Curriculum" Michael Lear is the husband of Stacey. They have four children: Jonathan, Misha, Elizabeth and Roger whom they are presently home-schooling together. He is the Pastor of Springs Baptist Church where he has served since March 2016. Michael came to trust the Lord Jesus Christ at a young age and has sought to serve Him faithfully in a daily life of devotion and discipleship, being involved in youth and children's ministry since 1997. Past. Giel Vermeulen - Teaching Children Effectively Giel Vermeulen completed his BA.Ed degree and spent 4 years teaching history before responding to the Lord’s call to fulltime ministry. He then spent 4 years completing his BA Theol Hons (Cum Laude) degree at the AFMTC and RAU. Giel and his wife Rene entered the fulltime ministry in 1999 and have served in various capacities at Corpus Christi AFM in Middelburg, Oasis Church in Kriel and then 5 years as part of a team at Victory Life in Kriel. In 2004 they returned to Alberton, where he was involved in Ministry at Revival City Church and as HOD Guidance and Counseling at Highlands North Boys’ High School. In 2007 he accepted a call as senior pastor to Impact Community Church in Edenvale, where he has served for the past 11 years. During his entire ministry career Giel has been involved with education at various levels, both within the ACE model as well as in government schools. Giel and Rene have three children aged 24, 21 and 19. Hayley Walker - Keeping Our Children Safe Hayley is the chair perons and senior trainer for Protective Behaviours South Africa, a committee member of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa Child Care Desk and guest lecturer at the University of Pretoria for the Centre for Contextual Ministry Youth Work and Humanities. Hayley’s approach to Abuse Prevention Education is underpinned by her whole community focus, which involves engaging schools via staff and students, parents and carers, childcare practitioners and members of other community groups in the process of creating safer communities. Emphasis is placed on developing a language and culture of safety for children and adults alike, improving communication between them and broadening the networks available to children when they are feeling unsafe.
